Despite advancements in gender equality, women’s health still faces inequalities and discrimination in many cases, especially in less privileged regions across our globe.
A pharmacist from Ukraine, MA Alona Donenko, has been helping our foundation since April 2022. Alona, who currently lives in the polish Tricity, spoke to us in April and from now on we planned help and helped hundreds of people in Ukraine. We are still planning new projects together. We asked Alona to write a few words about herself, about the last year of her life, here is the story of Alona.
We are very pleased to inform you that our colleague Magdalena Przybyla from the Farmaceuci.org Foundation was awarded in the 2022 volunteering coordinator competition in the Silesian Voivodship.
There is such a unique house in Poland. It’s called House in Lodz. It is an orphanage for seriously ill children, especially disadvantaged children. As Farmaceuci.org, we would like to support the Dom w Łodzi Foundation in the purchase of medicines, hygiene products and specialized food. And we want to do it permanently.
We visited a house in Bielsko-Biała where 40 orphans evacuated from Ukraine found temporary shelter. We equipped them, with medications typical for the autumn and winter period.
In May 2022, we started a new project to support refugees / displaced persons in Lviv.
The project consists in reimbursing the purchase of medicines for the elderly, the lonely and the disabled who were forced to flee the eastern part of Ukraine. These people, while in Western Ukraine, depend almost entirely on humanitarian aid.
In May 2022, we started a project in the Chernihiv Oblast, in areas covered by military operations in February 2024 as a result of Russian aggression. We are implementing this project in cooperation with the Ukrainian Chamber of Pharmacists.
On March 3, 2022 in Katowice, less than a week after the Russian attack on Ukraine, pharmacist Rafał Hechmann, the founder of the farmaceuci.org (means pharmacists in Polish) initiative, together with a group of volunteer pharmacists opened the first pharmaceutical aid point for Ukrainian refugees in Katowice. At that time approximately 140 thousand refugees were entering Poland EVERY DAY.
